Cornish Engine House, Botallack - Oil painting by Michael Strang
Like a great tombstone the mine stands against the setting sun.
I lay in the sky with lemon and crimson, orange and erulean. The tumbling building and stack with prussian and umber.
The winter bracken is stained with red, like blood from the men who must have died below. If I knew their names I would scratch them on the building's side and lay a faded gorse blossom at its foot.
